Mike Gundy... Wrong or Right?

First let me tell you to watch the video and form your own opinion. Second let me tell you my opinion.
I think Mike Gundy is promoting whiney baby syndrome in his players because he did this speech. He is talking about the student athlete (a young adult) going to his mother about the article and the mother bringing the article to coach Gundy. I don't question someone who cries to their mother about someone criticizing them when that someone is old enough to take care of themselves and live as a functioning adult, but I do question the mother that brings it to the coach instead of taking the opportunity to teach her son a lesson. The lesson is to teach this young adult to "Man Up" and learn to take a hit unless you aren't interested in success because successful people have critics at their backs so you had better get used to it son. I think it is fair to be critical about the mother and the coach both not taking the opportunity to teach this lesson but instead getting caught up in the cry baby tactics which have obviously worked for this young adult most of his spoon fed life. I think that both the mother and the coach have just Pavlov-ed their way into the exact response the kid likely wanted. Maybe one day when his employees criticize him or there is a bad article about his company in fortune magazine he'll cry to his mommy about it and she'll call and admonish the guy who wrote the article. The whole thing reminds me of those little brats that cry for toys in the Walmart and get their moms to buy them something out of guilt or simply to shut them up. Those lessons are the beginnings of teaching boys to stay boys instead of become men. Facts or not the fact is that every team and every athlete will have good and bad printed about them. A good coach who doesn't promote little piss ant babies would have lectured the team not the media. Even if he is right to be mad at the media the lesson to teach is to the young ADULTS (not kids) on his team about how to deal with criticism and how to stay positive and prove your critic wrong. Instead he has chosen to teach them to cry to their mommies so that he will come take up for them after having to listen to their mommy nag him to the point of no return. What do I know about the subject you ask? 1 - I'm from Oklahoma; 2 - My father was a football coach (among other sports) and his father a coach before him; 3 - My entire family was involved in varsity sports (I myself went to college with a track/cross country scholarship). I grew up with a father that if I fell when I was a little child would say "quit your cryin' if it aint bleedin' you'll be fine". My father was the one who watched the Olympics with me in the living room explaining to me why the injured marathon runners wouldn't let anyone help them across the line at the end of the race (because it would disqualify them due to being assisted by someone other than themselves). I remember listening to him tell me how much heart one of his high school football players had because he would get up early in the morning and work the hell out of the cattle on his farm and then run the 14 miles to school, take a shower, get A's in class, kick everyone's ass in football and all the other sports he played then run his 14 miles back home and work on his dad's farm for a few more hours before getting up to do it again. The thing that I appreciated about that story growing up was learning that despite that kids hardships he worked hard and acheived his own accomplishments without anyone's help but his own. That kid didn't have the opportunity and privilege to go home to his mommy and sit on the couch where his mommy would feed him chicken dinners while praising him for his great athletic abilities. I would venture to say that the young Adult on Gundy's team hasn't ever been given the privilege of being taught how to become a man. If he was then we'd have never heard about him or his mother in this rant by his coach cause his mother would have taken the opportunity to teach him the lesson his coach should have which is to "Man Up" and learn to take a hit unless you aren't interested in success because successful people have critics at their backs every day of their life so you had better get used to it son.

Got Milk?

Check out this video of a new method of getting milk in your coffee at the coffee shop. Apparently it was a candid camera moment at some coffee shop somewhere. Hilarious but don't let the kids watch it unless they can drive themselves to the coffee shop.
